Our cordovan (dark) brown 1940s reproduction bow pumps have calf skin leather uppers, hard leather soles with wrapped heels and rubber heel caps. The soles are hard leather, just like the originals. The interior linings are made of sheepskin and are lightly padded for comfort. Heel height is 2.75” making these very easy to walk out and about in.
These shoes are great to wear with your late 1930s-1950s vintage and vintage inspired clothing, as well as original WWII Uniforms. This pump design was originally issued to women in the military services such as the lady Marines during WWII.
These pumps are made from the same leather as our cordovan brown oxford that is color matched to original issued stamped WWII womens service shoes. This design would have also been found in department stores for civilians to purchase.
Our Bow Pumps run true to size, and have a roomy toe box, which means squished toes aren’t a worry. We advise ladies to order their regular size, and not their O.A.O. Oxford size. This is quite normal, never fear. Each shoe has her own unique personality, and fit notes, just like her wearer! As with all leather dress shoes, these will form well to your feet after a break-in period.** To hurry the process you may want to take your shoes to a cobbler and request that they be stretched. You also may want to order a half size larger if you like your shoes to fit loosely.
We find that the best way to keep our leather shoes in good shape is to use a shoe horn when putting them on and keep them polished with a good shoe cream.
** Shoes with worn soles or scratches will not be accepted for exchange or refund. Please try them only on carpet (or a towel or a sheet) and use a shoe horn to avoid breaking down the back of the shoe.
